Kenya: Officials Say Party Ignored Their Region

17 April 2008

Nairobi — Officials of ODM from Isiolo, Marsabit and Moyale have accused the party of sidelining MPs from the area in Cabinet appointments.

Former MP and officials of the National Muslim League Forum (Namlef) from upper Eastern yesterday said MPs Mohamud Ali (Moyale) and his North Horr counterpart were short-changed.

Mr Haji Charfano Mokku, former Isiolo North MP, and Namlef official, Mr Hassan Guyo, said party officials from the area ensured that ODM got two seats in Eastern Province that was largely a PNU and ODM-Kenya zone.

Mr Elema Isacko Fila, the ODM chairman in the new Chalbi District, echoed the sentiments.

"We are dismayed that instead only Ali was named as an assistant minister. They should have named one of the MPs as a Cabinet minister and the other as an assistant," said Fila.
