Lagos — Globecomm Systems Inc, a leading provider of satellite-based communications infrastructure solutions and services has stated that it will be presenting future proofing technologies to stakeholders in the telecoms sector globally at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show holding in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tom Parish, Vice President of Broadcast Technologies for Globecomm Systems Inc. in a statement made available to THISDAY disclosed that Globecomm will feature a range of technologies designed to "future-proof" television distribution systems, from legacy broadcast, cable and satellite to IPTV, Internet and mobile. He said that a mixture of the demonstrations will include ready-to-install technologies with "sneak peeks" of advanced video architectures. He stressed that Globecomm will feature video content streaming to TVs, PCs and mobile devices as well as demonstrate its implementation of Inlet Technologies' Spinnaker streaming solution by delivering the same video content via new media encoding to a TV, PC and mobile devices.

Parish added that a second demonstration will showcase Globecomm's ability to integrate IPTV video and "over the top" or Internet-direct video to a set-top box (STB) through advanced middleware and conditional access systems. The demonstration will run on an off-the-shelf STB modified by Globecomm to deliver capabilities expected from the next generation of STBs. The Globecomm solution is based on open standards, ensuring that it can adapt quickly and inexpensively to continue advances in the field. Globecomm according to him will also demonstrate the company's Media Processing Centre, an architecture for converting video into a wide variety of formats for distribution to cable TV, DVB satellite or handheld, and Internet video at many different bit rates and formats for live or file-based applications. He emphasized that Globecomm has incorporated the architecture into its most recent broadcast centre design projects around the world, and is introducing it at the 2008 NAB show as an essential approach to "future-proofing" new facilities as well as creating new revenue opportunities for legacy content. Parish said "Working with Inlet Technologies, we believe we are delivering the world's best video quality to Internet and handheld devices. For IPTV, we believe in an open-standard based solution that seamlessly merges IPTV with fast-growing internet-direct video content."
