The US Embassy in Angola announced Wednesday here that its government will grant 50,000 dollars to assist flood victims in the south-eastern Kuando Kubango province, ANGOP learnt.

According to a press note from that Embassy, the amount, to be attributed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the NGO "Care International" will be used in the acquisition of humanitarian goods and material to build residences and on insurances.

USAID will continue to follow the situation in order to co-ordinate with the Angolan Government and NGOs an additional assistance based on the needs identified on the ground.

Heavy rains falling in Cunene and Kuando-Kubango provinces have already claimed 14 lives, displaced 56,000 people, and destroyed plantations, schools, residences and roads, since last January.
