The bishop of the Lutheran church in Liberia Rt. Rev. Dr. Sumoward Harris has made an impassioned plead to the national government to ensure that trauma healing and reconciliation becomes an integral part of the national recovery process.

Bishop Harris told journalists in Monrovia Wednesday that national reconstruction program should work in concert with the reconciliation and renewal program.

He wants the government to engage the religious community to help enhance the reconciliation programs. The Lutheran bishop said going forward with the rehabilitation of roads and infrastructure development without detraumatizing the people traumatized by the war is building on shallow grounds.

He said the issue of reconciliation should give attention to the people victimized by the war so as to restore their dignity to them. Bishop Harris emphasized that unifying the country is a herculean task but can be achieved.

Bishop Harris statement comes as the Lutheran church celebrates the 10th anniversary of its trauma healing and reconciliation program beginning today.

Delegates from across the country, Africa, Europe and the United States of America have already arrived in the country for the celebration.

On tomorrow Friday, a peace parade will be undertaken by delegates from central Monrovia to the Monrovia City Hall for a formal indoor program to commemorate the start of the 10th anniversary. A mini seminar, sports and cultural festival will feature in the celebration in Saturday.
