The Secretary General of one of the factions of Union des Populations du Cameroun, UPC, Augustine Frederic Kodock, has said Cameroon is running into danger as leaders of the state are managing the country on tribal lines.
A former Minister in the Biya regime, Kodock was addressing UPC militants and sympathisers in Yaounde on April 10, during celebrations to commemorate 60 years of existence of the party.
In a press briefing afterwards, he said a minority group has taken Cameroonians hostage and are doing everything to stay in power through the use of force. "It is a real danger for a few to share out the country and rule it on tribal lines. A nation cannot be built by setting a section of the population against the other...," the UPC Scribe said.
He said because Cameroonians are under the crushing weight of misery, CPDM barons across the country and in the Nyong and Kelle Division in particular, used such an unfortunate situation to corrupt voters at the last elections.
"The strength of money is derailing the course of democracy in Cameroon. This is the bitter lesson we learned as the oldest political party in the country at the last elections," Kodock stated.
In a subtle reference to the February violent demonstrations, he said the youths who are always employed to carry out the dirty electoral practices are now realising that such acts play against their own future.
Kodock said he is a living witness of injustice, ingratitude, wickedness and sham treatment of his person and Cameroonians at large.He said as General Manager of CAMAIR, he was accused of embezzlement and as Minister of Agriculture, his successor, Clobert Tchatat, also accused him of the same act.
Kodock said in both accusations, he was vindicated. He said while he was being painted as a thief in the Ministry of Agriculture, a World Bank audit report was appreciating him for implementing over 70 percent of envisaged projects.
"I cannot steal from a country that offered me a scholarship to study through the secondary school right up to the university in Paris where I obtained a PhD," said Kodock.
He noted that his detractors are working very hard to stir a Bassa uprising by distributing publications on false reports in Nyong and Kelle about his arrest and detention by the judicial police.
On a recent fire incident where items in his bedroom were reduced to ashes, Kodock said the incident was reported to the police and the gendarmes and he is also anxiously waiting for the outcome of the investigations.
He urged UPC militants to be faithful builders of the nation, for according to him, those fighting against the party are fighting against the collective will of the Cameroonian people.
