Cameroon: Plan Cameroon Sizes Up Its Field Health Services

Plan Cameroon the community and Child/mother centred Non Governmental Organisation was recently on the field x-raying their activities in the health sector. Inspired by the World Health Day 2008, Plan Cameroon Communications officer Marie Paul Tchautcha took time off on April 8 and 9 assessing the effectiveness of their health services in Mezam and Ngokentunjia divisions in the North West Province.

It was a rare moment to communion with the beneficiary communities of Ndop, Bamukumbit, Baligashu, Agyati, Bafut and Obang. The Plan Guest were heralded in the Ndop and Bafut District hospitals with song and dance acknowledging that the organisation is a blessing to their health needs.

On the spot it was all joy and praises for plan Cameroon as a veritable development agent at the service of Cameroon. They welcome special warm words from Bamukumbit with their health post constructed and equipped by Plan Cameroon.

On hand, the chief of post Nzewo Emmanuel revealed that plan Cameroon provided the health post with Motorcycles which are used to reach out with treatment to the sick. Else where Plan Cameroon is said to have used Local NGOs Like the Ngoketunjia AIDS Fighters (NAFI) and the St Stephen and Paul Foundation Agyati Bafut to train community agent on Community Integrated Management of Child hood Illnesses (C- IMCI).The effectiveness of the approach was stressed on the field. The District Medical Officers of Ndop and Bafut Dr Ngwa Sharack and Dr Ndongmo respectively, told the Plan Cameroon team that the introduction of C-IMCI is welcome in educating parents on how to prevent infant diseases and simple approaches on how to handle sick children. They acknowledged that the C-IMCI system offer cheaper medical services because most often the child is treated without any laboratory test. In all the system is cheered to be effective and positive. With Plan Cameroon prominent with capacity building for health personnel, the provision of treated mosquito nets and medical equipment.

The plan Cameroon Programme Unit Manager, Dr Mfornyam Christopher Nfor explained that their outing on the field was in line with the World Health day. He stressed that Plan Cameroon has a health goal to significantly reduce child mortality by preventing diseases. Plan Cameroon, he said is a partner that promotes governments activities in the health sector while the Provincial Delegate of Public Health, Dr Ndiforchu Victor hailed Plan Cameroon for interventions that lift health standard of Cameroonians .One of the beneficiaries, Fon Gawolubi 11 of Baligashu was full of praises of Plan Cameroon when he said "I am a beneficiary of the training on how to treat mosquito net, thanks to Plan Cameroon". Fon Gawolubi11 sounded off that since Plan Cameroon took assistance to his community, the rate of infant mortality has drooped with malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia infections reduced.
