Angola: Lwini Foundation Donates U.S. $93,000 to National Oncology Centre

Lwini Social Solidarity Fund Thursday in Luanda handed over a cheque of Usd 93,000 to the National Centre of Oncology, as part of the celebrations of the organisation's 10th anniversary.

The event, which took place at Lwini Foundation headquarters, in the presence of the institution's chairperson, served also for the presentation of a new Website to the public, as well as awarding certificates of merit to the institution's partners.

On the occasion, the National Oncology Centre general director, Fernando Miguel, thanked the Lwini Foundation gesture, adding that the money will be used to cover the institution's difficulties, especially in attending paediatric patients.

According to the official, in 2007, about 900 cases of cancer were diagnosed, out of which 199 breast cancer and 130 womb cancer.

Established in the 70's, the National Oncology Centre attends daily in external consultations an average of 300 patients from all parts of the country.
