After months of pulsating wait, the day indeed has come for The Nigerian Bankers Award, exclusively Vanguard. From 6 O'clock this evening, all eyes will be on the new elite facility of the Civic Centre in the picturesque high profile setting of Victoria Island, bordering the Lagoon.

More than an industry award, it is a gathering of the best of the land to celebrate an industry that has overcome some overwhelming vicissitudes to be one of the most celebrated and attention grabbing in this part of the world.

So, for this evening, the entertainment package is indeed long, diverse and carefully selected to massage the taste of the distinguished and high net worth personalities that will gather to witness an industry reward its own elite performing personalities and operators.

Obviously the entertainment package will be robust enough to attenuate and sweeten the anxiety of nominees and provide a healthy fun for all guests.

The award panel told Vanguard group of editors that since they were staking their collective integrity on the project, the award should send a powerful and positive message to the public and impact positively on the management and shareholders of banks, especially, in terms of bottom line.

The guest speaker, Ms Arunma Oteh, Vice President, Africa Development Bank (AfDB) jetted into the country at about 5.30 a m today from Paris well prepared to take on the banking community and Nigerians on Banking, Financial Hub and Human Development index. The event will see the CBN Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, deliver the keynote address.

But the Nigeria banking, business and political communities are waiting to hear the radical views of Ms Oteh on "Does Africa have a future?"

Bankers, businessmen and women, politicians are eager to hear her speak on issues relating to the Nigeria quest for the financial hub of Africa.

Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth will deploy his cosmopolitan experience to chair the occasion. Several state governors and top government functionaries have sent words to confirm that they will be part of the team to celebrate the banks and banking personalities doing the country good.

The event which is strictly by invitation has seen the organisers order for more invitation cards as more and more requests are made to enable bankers enjoy their day.

Apart from the honorees that will be serenaded for leaving a meritorious legacy for the banking industry, others would really have to bear the tension and expectation of a school pupil waiting for a befitting pronouncement from a no nonsense school teacher, except that the authority, in this case, Vanguard, has ensured that every moment is laced with very positive, heart-pumping and scintillating entertainment meant for only those who have distinguished themselves in the land.
