There are training centres all over the country which don't meet the required norms.

Unlike football, there are no training centres for volleyball. Most children come to discover volleyball like many other sports disciplines in school within the framework of sports and physical education classes. This is at the secondary school or university levels. Clubs therefore fetch talents within schools especially during the final phase of national school games or the university games.

However, for some time now, some two former players of the national volleyball team are trying to bring about change in this domain. The Bafia volleyball club is the only volleyball club with a training centre. The fruits of this endeavour are already paying off as barely one year after its creation; the club won both the championship and cup of Cameroon crushing along their way volleyball giants like AES-Sonel and FAP Yaounde. The club is in its first African expedition and there is no doubt that their first trial could be a master's strike. Owing to the success of the club, officials are envisaging the creation of a second training centre to create greater opportunities for competition among the players.

Another fertile ground for the nurturing of the volleyball talents is in the military as sports is inscribed in their official curriculum. Since the military has a volleyball club, FAP, talented elements are selected to join the club.

Other than these avenues, training in volleyball is strictly within clubs and usually intensified on the eve of competitions. According to the president of the Cameroon volleyball federation, Louis Majoré Timba, there are volleyball training centres all over the country. The only shortcoming, he said, was that the centres are not organised according to the norms. It is for this reason that the federation in partnership with the German cooperation mission, has embarked on an ambitious project to build volleyball schools all over the country. Still within the framework of improving training in volleyball, the federation is equally in the process of signing a convention with the Ministry of Basic Education, to introduce volleyball training in primary schools. Also, the federation equally asked clubs to have a junior team which will serve as relay or replacement of the older players when they retire from the game.
