Angola: Police Arrest Brazilian Physicians Illegally Working in Country

The national department of Inspection of Economic Activities of the general command of the National Police recently arrested three Brazilian nationals over illegal practice of medicine in the country.

According to a communiqué of the police delivered to ANGOP Friday, the individuals are Valneide Soares dos Santos, Johouns Pereira Velasco and Marilones Massaita Hatsia, all Brazilians, who were detained by the national police for having been found carrying out medicine, as physicians of estomatology at Miramar clinic, nº66 at Fernão Machado Street, in Luanda, without obeying the legal formalities in force in Angola, since they are not authorised to carry out medical activities in the country.

Still according to the document, the detention happened in the light of actions of the National Department of Inspection and Investigation of Economic Activities of control to crimes of illegal execution of civil services or professions, foreseen and punishable in terms of Articleº 236 of the Penal Code.

Henceforth, and due to having observed the illegal practices of professions, such as medicine, the National Police will focus its investigations on clinics and other health institutions.
