Angola: Minister Barrica Attends Votes Recount in Zimbabwe

18 April 2008

Luanda — The head of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC)'s observation mission to Zimbabwe, Angola's Youth and Sports minister Marcos Barrica, left Friday for Harare to supervise the votes recount process of the legislative elections held in 23 voting stations, starting on Saturday, ANGOP has learnt.

Marcos Barrica, who spoke to ANGOP before his departure, added that the Zimbabwe National Electoral Commission has invited SADC to monitor the process.

"Right after we arrive there we will set up the work groups, move the observers to the different areas in which votes will be recounted and do the work. After this, we will follow the development of the process", he underlined.

Elections in Zimbabwe took place last March 29 with the poll to elect the President of the Republic, senators, MPs and members of the local governments.

Meanwhile, there is a deadlock in the process due to the non publication of the final results of the elections.

What a joke. A minister from Angola as the head of the mission to observe an election? Angola hasn't held an election in 15 years and is ranked as one of the most corrupt countries in the world.

Perhaps the minister is going there to learn a few tricks on how to rig an election from master Mugabe.
