Exactly one year after he has been held incommunicado at State Central Prison at Mile II, Yahya Bajinka, an NIA agent, was released unconditionally on the evening of Wednesday 16 April, 2008. According to reliable sources, since his arrest on 16 April, 2007, Bajinka was incarcerated at the maximum wing of Mile II.
According to sources, Bajinka was taken to the Headquarters of the National Intelligence Agency in Banjul, before being escorted to his native town of Brikama by three plain clothes officers. Sources indicate that Bajinka had never been arraigned in any court of law in the country during his one year detention.
Family members expressed delight and gratitude over the release of their loved one. This reporter has confirmed the release of Mr. Bajinka.
