The Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) and Namibia Rugby Union (NRU)'s Club Championships, scheduled for 25 to 26 April, will have local teams vying for top honours at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek.

Announcing the news on Wednesday, MTC sponsorship and promotions manager Amos Shiyuka said the prize monies are intended to ensure that a competitive level of rugby is maintained, and that the 'fair play' motto prevails throughout the tournament.

The winner this year will walk away with N25 000, while the runner-up will receive N15 000.

The third-placed team will receive N$10 000, while the fourth-placed team will reeive N$5 000.

Entrance fees for the club championship are N$10 for adults and N$5 for children.

Meanwhile, the NRU 2008 MTC Premier League and First League were officially launched at the Hage Geingob Stadium on Wednesday.

The teams competing in the MTC Premier League are Western Suburbs, United, Wanderers, University of Namibia (Unam), Jaquars, Grootfontein, Kudus, Rehoboth and Reho Falcons.

MTC First League teams are United II, Wanderers II, Unam II, Western Suburbs II, Rehoboth II, Reho Falcon II, CATS, Etosha Lions, Swans, Mariental, Otjiwarongo and Oshakati.

According to the sponsorship announcement, both the MTC Premier and MTC First Leagues will be contested on a home and away basis.

The total sponsorship for the league is N$412 000, which includes start-up capital of N$242 000.
