Mozambique: Germany Supports Tax Authority

The German government joined this Thursday the memorandum of Understanding to support the common fund for the implementation of the Mozambican Tax Authority (ATM)

The document was signed between ATM chairperson Rosario Fernandes and German Ambassador to Mozambique Christian Kraemer.

Germany is pledging a one million Euros (1.520 million US dollars) a year in 2008 and 2009.

According to a press release, of the German Embassy, received by AIM on Thursday, with this contribution to the fund, Germany intends to support ATM, thus strengthening tax collection mechanisms and, at long term, reduce the country's external dependence.

The document says that financing the tax collection system is an important part of its support to the development of the country's financial system, which helps the state budget.
