Shisong Cooperative Credit Union in Kumbo Chapter has elected the first-ever female President, Christine Kila Wongibe.

Kila Wongibe grabbed her ticket into the Cameroon Cooperative Credit Union League - CAMCCUL as BOD member, during a hotly contested election at the CAMCCUL office, Saturday, April 12.

Wongibe, who had served as Kumbo Chapter Vice President defeated her two male contestants - George Lukong of Kumbo Police Credit Union and Sylverius Jaff of Jakiri Credit Union by obtaining 20 of the 28 votes cast. Lukong and Jaff each had two and five votes respectively, with one null and void ballot.

According to CAMCCUL regulations, Wongibe becomes the Kumbo Chapter representative (delegate) at CAMCVUL. She takes over from Hon. Michael Banseka, one-time SDF Parliamentarian for Kumbo constituency. She is also expected to hold the position for five years, unless she is voted out of her credit union as president.

Wongibe will be assisted by Emmanuel Fai, President of Mbve Cooperative Credit Union Ltd as Vice with Jaff as Secretary and Peter Tata of BBH Credit Union as Chapter Treasurer.

In her speech, CAMCCUL Network Coordinator, Christina Tanyi, while appreciating the gender equity in the league, however, appealed for collaboration and hard work amongst the Chapter executives.

She challenged the Kumbo Chapter to recover the huge rural development fund, which she said is in the hands of Kumbo Chapter."You know it is a revolving fund and if they don't pay, the league will pay and that will affect your respective unions," Tanyi cautioned.

She also insisted on credit unions insuring their cash in safes.

Outgoing Chapter President, Hon. Banseka, appealed to CAMCCUL staff to regularly check credit unions' records to avoid end of year discrepancies. He called for regular training seminars as part of capacity building for both staff and credit union members.

In her acceptance speech, the new Kumbo Chapter President pleaded for team work with her executive members. She appealed for a learning spirit to be inculcated in all and sundry.

Hear her: "We are all in a learning process. No one should pretend to be all knowing."
