Cameroon: Troops Arrest Dozens Suspected of Assaulting DO

A combined force of police, gendarmes and soldiers have arrested more than a dozen men suspected of molesting Muyuka Divisional Officer, DO, David Dibango, during the recent nationwide unrest.
Rounded up from the Sand-Sand Quarters, Strangers' Quarters, Stone Quarters and Black Bush Quarters in Muyuka in an early morning raid (kale-kale) on Wednesday, April 16, the suspects are presently caged at the Mobile Police Intervention Unit, GMI, Buea.
According to police sources, the raid was launched at the behest of the hierarchy in a bid to catch the people who assaulted the DO and burnt down his car, and destroyed the Muyuka police station.
The sources say the suspects are detained pending judgement. They said Muyuka denizens are satisfied with the arrest given that some of the suspects were identified as hardened criminals that have been terrorising the town.
They, however, stated that after thorough investigations, those found not guilty would be acquitted.It would be recalled that Dibango was manhandled such that he sustained injuries and was reportedly hospitalised at the Buea Provincial Hospital Annex.

There are allegations that the DO has been pointing accusing fingers at militants of the opposition Social Democratic Front, SDF, party.On the sidelines, The Post learned that the DO and his presiding officer deserted the Muyuka grandstand, when the SDF women, clad in their party uniform, were marching during the Woman's Day celebration last month. This act, observers consider, is unruly for a seasoned administrator of Dibango's calibre.
