The police force acting on firm instructions from the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Yaounde II, Abdou Patcha, disrupted a press conference held by Luc Frederic Mbang, National President of Popular Youth Front, PYF, party.

The press conference, which was supposed to brief journalists on the party's stance regarding the unpopular bill whose adoption was made possible only by the CPDM MPs, came to a halt when four police officers of the Yaounde Second Police District threatened arrest.

The SDO ordered that the conference be postponed to a later date. "The atmosphere in the country now does not warrant such a gathering. Until further notice, out! I say, out! And if anyone fidgets, we will execute our instructions to letter," said the policemen.

Meanwhile, Frederic Mbang was temporarily pulled out of the hall for questioning. He was taken a police wagon, apparently to be whisked to the Tsinga police post. Before the police officers stormed the hall, Mbang had, however, said despite the fact that his party is not represented at the National Assembly; it is incumbent on him and his party that the President has the constitutional prerogative to call for the amendment of the constitution.

But that article 53(3) of the Constitution, which provides that the President of the Republic will not be accountable for acts committed during the exercise of his functions, gives the President unlimited powers.
