Liberia: U.N. Secretary General Arrives Today

Monrovia — The Secretary General of the United Nations Ban-Ki-Moon is expected to arrive in the country today on a two- day official visit.

Upon his arrival, the UN Chief who is already in Africa on a tour of the continent would be taken to the Monrovia City Hall, where he would be presented the keys of the City of Monrovia.

Thereafter, he would retire at the UNMIL Pan Africa Plaza Headquarters adjacent the Monrovia City Hall in Sinkor.

On Tuesday, the UN Secretary General, would meet with Vice President Joseph Boakia. Who would lead the Liberian government into discussion with the UN Chief in the absence of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. The President is in the United States of America on an official engagement.

Also on tomorrow, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, would address a joint session of the National Legislature at the Capitol Building. He would be expected to speak on issues concerning Liberia and the world at large.

According to reports, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, would also holds talks with the UN Country Team in Liberia to be followed by a special ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he would be gown and honor by the Liberian government.

Following the gowning ceremony, the UN Secretary General would address a major news conference at the Foreign Ministry before taking off from the country.

Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, visit is the first since he became head of the world body but the second by the UN Secretary General since the Ellen's government took office.

His immediate predecessor, Mr. Kofi Annan, visited the country few days to the end of his tenure and was decorated by the Liberian government with one of the nation's highest honor.
