The Director of the Bureau of Rehabilitation & Corrections at the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Edwin Z. Volawuo has returned home following a two-week official visit to the Republic of Ghana.

Director Volawuo was in Ghana at the invitation of the Ghanaian Prison Authority to acquaint himself with the prison system in Ghana with the aim of formalizing friendly and productive relations.

While in Ghana, Mr. Volawuo was taken on a tour of the Ghanaian prison facilities including the maximum prison by the Director General of the Ghana Prison Service, Mr. W.K. Asiedu.

At the end of the visit, a Memorandum Of Understanding was signed between the Ghana Prison Service of the Republic of Ghana and the Bureau of Rehabilitation & Corrections, Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Liberia. The two heads of Prison signed for their respective Countries.

According to the Memorandum, the Bureau of Rehabilitation & Corrections of the Ministry of Justice of Liberia and the Ghana Prison Service will develop and carry out a program of cooperation and joint work in the pursuit of improved correctional practice and appropriate to their missions and in the spirit of mutual understanding.

The two prison institutions also agreed to the exchange of staff and information, including visits to institutions and the evaluation of programs; the exchange of staff to the all levels of existing training institutions.

Meanwhile, Director Volawuo has extended thanks and appreciation to the Government of Ghana through the Ghana Prison Service for providing him the opportunity to visit such a contemporary prison.
