Monrovia

A long time critic of the United Nations(UN) sanction placed on Liberians, the Representative of Electoral District number three of Montserrado County, Dr. Kettehkumueh E. Murray, has threatened not attend any ceremony intended for the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon if the Administrator of the UN does not address the sanction issue.

He said the continued and flagrant violation of the rights of Liberian citizens by the UN, especially as that body wants to pervade it as the guardian of universal rights is highly objectionable.

When asked as to what message he has for the UN Official, he said, "I will call on the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to either lift charges against our citizens for the violation of their rights which in the inception have been illegal and immoral."

Dr. Murray who teaches at the University of Liberia and the Baptist Seminary said the coming of the Secretary-General to Liberia is a welcome development as it relates to being pivotal in Liberia's recovery.

However, Dr. Murray said any continued traveling ban on those Liberians would be considered as an affront to all standards of decency and an egregious wrong to the individual persons and to the state.

He stressed that "unless serious efforts are made to address the state of mind for some of these ban persons who are in my constituent, I intend to boycott all meeting sessions, dinners and other functions which will involve the UN Secretary-General".

Public concern is that lots of the citizens under the UN Sanction are contributing a lot to the nation's recovery program by opening factories and other businesses that have given employment to many Liberians and foreigners.

"In fact, most of these sanction-affected people were elected by their people based on how the citizens understand the culture of the conflict," Representative Murray said.

Hon. Murray, Do you think by boycotting any cermony will help your caue? how will you present your grievances to the SG if you are not prepared to even go to the function and listen to what he have to say to the people of this country. The travel ban was impossed by the security council and not the SG, who is merely chief scribeof the UN. As an honourable member of the house, you should put Liberia first before your constituency. Stop making utterances that have the tendacy to bring the honourable house into disrepute. Long Live Liberia.
