Monrovia — Sata Tamba and her family are still in a state of shock following last week's attack on their Perry Street home in Monrovia by arm robbers.
Sata, her husband Syrius and their 16 year-old son were seriously wounded when five arm robbers forced their way into their residence on April 17, 2008.
The incident, according to her, occurred at about 2:00 a.m. when three of the five arm robbers attempted to force their way into the bedroom after they had broken into the living room.
Sata narrated that Syrius was behind the door trying to prevent the armed robbers from entering their bedroom when the robbers overpowered him, chopped his right hand with a machete and wasted acid water in his face.
She said when her 16-year-old son, who was in a state of fear shouted, the arm robbers also wasted acid water in his face.
Sata, a student at the University of Liberia and also housewife, sustained injuries on her face, right shoulder and left hand as a result of acid water sprinkled on her by the robbers.
"I shouted for him for help, but nobody in the community could come to our rescue," she narrated painfully.
Sata disclosed that her husband and son are in critical condition undergoing treatment at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center in Sinkor.
"I thank God that we are still alive. But I have fear that those men could return one day," Sata said.
Some residents of the Perry Street community told The NEWS that during the attack, they heard Sata shouting for help but nobody could come out because the armed robbers usually travel in large group with dangerous weapons.
Unlike certain communities in Monrovia and its environs that have already organized vigilante groups, Perry Street community does not have any. However, members of the community said they are considering forming one.
The residents disclosed that two weeks ago, arm robbers attacked a house adjacent Sata's residence. The occupants of the house did not resist, instead, they allowed the robbers to take away what their hands would lay on.
Last week's robbery on Perry Street is one of several attacks that have taken place in central Monrovia and other areas.
