Tshepo Molwane

Jwaneng Comets held Notwane to a 1-1 draw in a dull Mascom Premier League game played at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Though Comets were disorganised, Notwane failed to take advantage. Notwane started well with the combination of Tshepiso 'Sox' Molwantwa and Langson Sichola giving the visitors' rearguard a tough time. Molwantwa could have given his side the lead in the fifth minute but goalkeeper Ntungamile Tshoganetso did well to deny him. Two minutes later,

Comets shocked the hosts when Munetsi Mbao opened the scoring from the edge of the box, beating goalkeeper Mompoloki 'Wrist' Mmusi hands down. Mbao who joined the Jwaneng side from Extension Gunners in January capitalised on a mistake by Notwane defender Stopper Mpoeleng. Notwane huffed and puffed though and in the 35th minute, they were unlucky when Comets' goalkeeper parried Molwantwa's header for a corner. Four minutes later, Comets' striker Wellington Maposa wasted a good opportunity after he was left unmarked in the box. In the absence of Jomo Bolofete, Maposa started upfront with Godfrey Makgarapa, but the duo never threatened the jittery Comets' defence. Notwane could have gone to the break on level terms but goalkeeper Tshoganetso denied Sichola.

After halftime, Notwane tried hard to equalise but the efforts were frustrated by lack of composure. Ten minutes into the second half, Safie Sibisibi forced a spectacular save from the goalkeeper. Toronto kept pushing forward and in the 65th minute, substitute Botshelo Mogotsi had his effort coming off the crossbar. Comets gave Notwane a scare in the 71st minute when Mbano's drive came off the upright with Sephekolo well beaten.

Five minutes later, Notwane substitute Matenge Sefedile equalised when he capitalised on a collision between Tshoganetso and his defender.

The goal brought some relief to the hosts' supporters. Sefedile could have grabbed the winner in the 81st minute but his header went wide. In other games, Nico United suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Gaborone United. In Lobatse, TAFIC beat BMC 2-1.
