The Board Chairman of the Douala Autonomous Port and former Transport Minister, Christopher Kiloh Fai Nsahlai, dropped dead in a private clinic in Yaounde on April 18, after a brief illness.
The politician and diplomat, who served as Cameroon's Ambassador to the Central African Republic, was born in Nso, Bui Division of the Northwest Province in December 1943. He held a Doctorate Degree in International Relations that enabled him to work as Charges des Missions at the Prime Minister's office and adviser at Cameroon's Embassy in Born, Germany.
He was later appointed the Deputy Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic in 1984. President Paul Biya later appointed Nsahlai Transport Minister in 2000 and sacked him in August 2002 in favour of John Begheni Ndeh. He was appointed the Board Chair of the Autonomous Port of Douala on January 24, 2006.
The late statesman, who leaves behind a widow and six children, was Minister plenipotentiary, a writer and the CPDM Central Committee resource person to the Bui constituency.
While still serving as Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Nsahlai imposed himself on a very high public pedestal in Cameroon when he published "Look Up To The Mountain: Beyond Party Politics", a book that is loaded with political satire.
Besides, Nsahlai left his foot prints as President of the National Scout Movement. He played table tennis and read widely at his leisure. Deeply involved as a custodian of the Nso culture, the former Minister, held the following traditional titles; Ngwang, Nformi, Kibai ke Nkar and Shufai tonsai.
He is said to have recently participated in activities commemorating the cultural week of the Nso people known as Ngonnso and crowned the festival on April 12 by hosting the traditional dance of the Nso warriors
According to family sources, Nsahlai returned to his Nsimeyong residence, Yaounde, on April 15, and complained that he was feeling pains on his left foot and back. He is reported to have said he hit his foot on a stone when he was visiting his building site in the village.

He is also reported to have complained of general body pains and fever and was rushed to a Yaounde private clinic at 3am on Friday. The doctors were reportedly struggling to diagnose what was wrong with him when he gave up the ghost. The news of his sudden death fell like a bomb shell in Yaounde.
