Johannesburg — FINANCE Minister Trevor Manuel's plea for calm in the face of the global upward spiral in food prices is cold comfort for South Africans reeling from the recent hikes, not only in food prices, but in petrol and other costs too.
Calling for calm is all well and good, but it does little to point the way out of what is fast becoming a dangerous situation for the poor , to say nothing of the effect of a lack of food and nutrition for the millions in SA who are HIV-positive.
