Angola: Fourth CPLP Environment Ministers Meeting Kicks Off Today

Angola hosts from this Tuesday at Talatona Conventions Centre, in Luanda, the fourth conference of Environment ministers of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP).
The event shall be divided into two segments: technical (from April 22 to 23) and ministerial (April 24), also including parallel meeting of the Waters Departments of member States, meeting of focal points of environmental education and of representatives of environmental associations.
Topics such as biodiversity, climatic changes, combat to desertification and reducing the effects of draughts, ecotourism, and environmental education, environmental management of the coastal and marine zone, solid residues, and water resources are also part of the agenda of debates.
The presence of incumbent ministers of the eight countries that make up the community has been confirmed.
On the fringes of the meeting, Angola will sign with Portugal and Guinea Bissau two memorandums of understanding for the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climatic Changes and of the Kyoto Protocol.
The event shall also define a programme of activity for the 2008/2010 period, and the "Luanda Declaration" will be adopted during the final session.

CPLP comprises Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, Sao Tome and Principe and East Timor.
