Namibia: Embassy Holds Agriculture and Food Event

NAMIBIAN Ambassador to Germany Peter Katjavivi, who will soon start his new job as Director General of the National Planning Commission (NPC), will hold a Namibian-German Agriculture and Food Day in Berlin on Thursday The Namibian Embassy will co-host the event with the German Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Protection.

The Embassy is co-operating with various ministries, including the Ministry of Trade, and companies like Namibian Breweries, the Meat Board, Meatco and some NGOs involved in indigenous food production like marula juice and mahangu porridge to promote Namibian food products.

"The day will start with a workshop, which is going to be opened by Ambassador Katjavivi and Permanent Secretary Gert Lindemann of the German Agriculture Ministry.

Several Namibian and German speakers will present and debate important issues such as investment and business opportunities, bio-trade, import and export procedures, renewable energy, fair trade, commercialisation of healing plants and poverty reduction programmes," the Embassy said in a statement on Friday.

In the evening about 500 guests are expected to attend an exhibition of Namibian agricultural products, and to be treated to Namibian delicacies such as ostrich steak, kingklip, hake, beef, biltong and boerewors, which were donated by numerous Namibian companies.

German traditional food will be served as well, and a wine queen from the German region of Kurpfalz will serve a variety of German wines to the guests.

"The event has attracted wide interest and is viewed as the first such joint project between the German Ministry of Agriculture and an African country," the Namibian Embassy said.
