Monrovia — The Progressive Youth for the Transformation of the ruling Unity Party has taken exception to statements, which they claimed was made by Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine of the Liberty Party that the Unity Party led government should be blamed for the high cost of prices on the market.
The UP youth group, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its spokesperson, described the assertions of the LP flag bearer as "deceitful and misleading."
The group said the government can not be blamed because anyone who has followed the trend of development unfolding across the world, would agreed that there have been a steady increase in the prices of basic commodities such as rice.
According to the group, this increment in the prices of basic commodities is beyond the control of the government or any third world country for that matter.
The UP youth group added in the statement that major producers of rice on the market such as Thailand, India and China, have decided to curtail the exportation of rice due to the increasing demand for the commodity in their countries.
The group noted also that the price of oil has increased steadily for the past months from US$80 per barrel to US$117 per barrel, something, which the group noted has also affected the market prices in Liberia.
They wonder whether Cllr. Brumskine is not aware of these facts for which he is accusing the government. They also wonder whether Cllr. Brumskine wants to ferment confusion or he is just making these claims to mislead the Liberian people.
Meanwhile, the youth group is calling on all Liberians in and out of the country to join hands with the UP government in its endeavor to bring about rapid development to the nation.

Progressive Youth of Unity Party, I want to thank you all for the stand you took to addressed Cllr. Brumskin's statement he made about the high prices.I am happy that you guys are following the news around the world. The politicans in Liberia are so used to getting people children on the streets to do their dirty work. Brumskin and others are very much aware of what is happening around the world and even in Liberia. They know very well that Liberian people weakness is rice therefore they play around it just to stir up things. They know how to get together to help solve some of the problems in Liberia but selfishness, greediness and pride keep them from being kind to the Liberian people. I continue to say that the Govt. is not able to import rice and as Liberians, we should learn to grow our own food and other crops. To all youth groups in Liberia, learn to say no to violence. Do not let anybody make you do their dirty work. You all are our future leaders. You all should not let those greedy politicans mislead you .They all have their children in school and they want to use the rice issue to stir up things in our country. This is a global issue. Please let our people know. Let us try other kinds of food.
