Luena — The main event of the celebrations of the Africa Malaria Day (April 25) in Angola will take place in Luena city, eastern Moxico province, during a ceremony chaired by the deputy Health minister for Hospitals, Evelize Fresta.
To this end, the local government has drafted a programme that was submitted to Angop on Tuesday, including talks on the characterisation of malaria in Angola and the National Strategic Plan on the Control of the Disease.
Speaking to Angop, Moxico Health director, Ernesto Muangala, said hat the date is celebrated in response to the declaration by the African heads of State in Abuja (Nigeria), in 2000.
According to the health director, the political involvement and engagement showed by the province in the combat of the disease made Luena city to be chosen to host the celebrations.
Early this month, Upper Zambezi (Moxico) district hosted the launch of the "Roll Back Malaria" expedition in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC).
