Ethiopia: Dev't Projects Must Go Through Environmental Impact Assessment - Activists

Addis Ababa — As part of efforts to contribute towards the advancement of development in terms of good governance, training and peace and security, Italy has granted 1.2 million Euros in four contributions to different organizations, according to a statement from the its embassy in Addis Ababa.

The statement noted the contributions have been granted to four African organizations "taking into consideration the role they play in maintaining good governance, training, peace and security in Africa in coordination with the initiatives of the African Union and the European Union.".

Thus, the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) received 500,000 Euro "for its work of monitoring and supervising good governance" in African countries and 300,000 was granted to the Kofi Annan International Training, Peace keeping center in Accra "for its dedication in the reinforcement of peace and security" and assigning an Italian officer from the ministry of defense at the centre for training activities.

The national independent election commission in Congo got 300, 00 Euro for "its contribution to the reinforcement of stability in Congo" whereas 100,000 Euro went to the Commission of Peace and Security of the Pan African Parliament with the aim of facilitating the commission in establishing contacts and launching joint activities with European Institutions in the field of peace and security, according to the statement..
