Mozambican president Armando Guebuza said in Maputo on Tuesday that the government has not been notified and was not aware of the presence of any Chinese ship in the country's waters carrying weapons to the neighbouring Zimbabwe.

Guebuza, who was speaking to reporters at the beginning of his tour across the country (Open Presidency) started this Tuesday, said that case would be discussed by the national authorities upon a formal request from the alleged ship to unload its cargo in Mozambique.

"We will take a decision when we have something concrete and not abstract, or based on allegations. Therefore that decision only will be taken when we have something on the table", said Guebuza.

In the last few days, news broke of a Chinese ship, the 'An Yue Jiang', carrying 77 tons of weapons and ammunition destined for Zimbabwe, causing much controversy all over the world.

The ship lifted anchor and sailed from Durban on Friday evening less than an hour after the Durban High Court ordered that its cargo could not be transported across South Africa to Zimbabwe.

Initial reports indicated the ship was heading to the Mozambican ports of Maputo or Beira, but according to the last news, it seems that the ship appears to be heading to Angola.

On the occasion, Guebuza also noted that both Lusaka and Port Louis Summits, held in Zambia and Mauritius respectively, have shown an unwavering commitment of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) with a peaceful resolution for the current impasse in Zimbabwe.

He stressed that should there be a run-off of the presidential elections, SADC is ready to send observers to oversee the process.

Guebuza is expected to visit all country's provinces, where he will assess the level of implementation of the government's five-year plan and the fight against poverty.
