Nairobi — The Independent Review Commission set up to investigate last year's elections fiasco will hold countrywide meetings to gather evidence.
Consequently, it has asked all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society, members of the public and other interest groups to submit their written memoranda by May 16 to help it plan well.
"We are in the process of preparing the schedule of our meetings which will include regional meetings with the public. We shall receive evidence on any matter relating to the 2007 elections," the commission, headed by Justice Johann Kriegler, said in a press advertisement appearing in local dailies.
The probe team is based at Nairobi's Kenyatta International Conference Centre, where the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) tallied results of the 2007 elections.
The memoranda, the commission says, should include a brief presentation on the facts and evidence that they intend to present and the number and names of witnesses they wish to appear before the commission.
According to the statement, the commission will analyse the information and schedule meetings for presentation of any further required information or for appearance before it by any identified witnesses.
The commission started its work this month and has already held introductory meetings with representatives of political parties, media and the civil society.
At the end of the exercise, the commission is expected to submit its report to the President in three-to-six months. The report will be made public within 14 days of submission.
