The Angolan National Assembly authorised on Tuesday, during a plenary session held in its main hall in Luanda, the Angolan government to legislate on the new Traffic Regulations Code.

The authorisation, which has been granted for a period of 180 days, was approved with 124 votes in favour and one abstention.

The document comprises aspects like the classification of the different kinds of driving licence and the minimum age to get it, the age limits for one to be eligible to drive certain types of vehicles, and the introduction of the points system, among other innovations.

The governmental request to legislate on this matter was presented to the MPs by the deputy minister of the Interior, Angelo Veiga. With this move the government intends to harmonise the national norms on this issue with the international ones.

Meanwhile, in the same session the lawmakers received from the deputy minister of Justice, Guilhermina Prata, information about some changes needed on the 5/94 Law on the Penal Military Justice, which has to be discussed and eventually approved.

The parliamentarians also received details on the Alteration Bill of the 3/05 Law (electoral registration law) and the 3/05 law (electoral law), which were presented by the ruling MPLA party's parliamentary bench.
