A police officer assigned to Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has been charged with manslaughter for his alleged involvement in the death of Vincent Luciny in Lofa County .

Officer James Lavala was charged last week by the Police Detachment in Voinjama, Lofa County, and turned over to the Magisterial Court in the county for prosecution.

Lavala, who is presently detained at the Voinjama Central Prison was arrested recently in Foya for his alleged role in the death of Vincent Luciny.

A staff of the Voinjama Magisterial Court, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said officer Lavala had gone to settle a dispute between the Luciny (the deceased) and a Fulani only identified as Sow.

In the process of settling the dispute, Lavala, according to our source, decided to apprehend the deceased who apparently resisted. Within a trickle of an eye, Lavala allegedly kicked Luciny in his private part following which he was later pronounced dead upon arrival at the police detachment in Foya.

The incident occurred when Vice President Boakai was on a recent visit to Lofa County.

Voinjama Central Prison Superintendent Maj. Anthony B. Karfala confirmed that the Vice President's bodyguard had been charged with manslaughter pending court trial.
