The Entrance to the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, (SOPECAM) and the Police Rapid Intervention Unit (GMI) in Bonanjo, Douala is undergoing rehabilitation.

The work which began a week ago is expected to last for three months. The entrance for a long time has been an earth road which was bumpy and during the rainy season it created many potholes and some were very large and left standing rain water in the holes making the whole area to become flooded. In this condition, it was difficult for vehicles to use the entrance because at times it was like a car passing through a river. Cars driven through such roads are bound to breakdown easily.

The idea to rehabilitate the road falls in line with the CUD project which was put in place to carryout rehabilitation on some earth roads around Douala. The contract to rehabilitate the roads was awarded by the CUD to ERNO General Contractor, ERNO G C. So far the road has been dug and water drained from the area leaving the mud to get dried since it rained seriously last week.

Speaking to Cameroon Tribune, an Engineer at the Department of "Grand Travaux" at the Douala City Council who wanted to be anonymous said the rehabilitation is simultaneously taking place at the SOPECAM entrance and the entrance to the Court from the tarred road and the Delegation of Youths which is separated from the SOPECAM entrance by the building of Informatique Douanes.

These projects which are expected to last for three months, he said, are estimated to cost one hundred and eight million francs. Talking about how the work will be done, he said they will soon cover the mud when it is dry with gravel after which, they will place pave blocks which are about 8 centimetres wide and high. According to the engineer, the work is being carried out to ease circulation of vehicles in those areas and also to ease trekking for those who have to walk on foot in to and out of those areas.
