Lubango — About 309 people died of malaria, from the 6,108 diagnosed with this illness at provincial hospital of Huíla, between the months of January and March 2008, ANGOP learnt this Wednesday from the head of the department of Public Health and Control of Endemic Diseases, Barnabé Lemos.
According to the source, the cases resisted during period in analysis, 3,300 were considered serious. He added that in spite of the number of people diagnosed with malaria in the first three months, there was a significant reduction, both of cases, as of deaths.
Barnabé Lemos said that reduction of cases was mainly due to the constant updating of course for health technicians, who are now more capable of mapping out correctly the cases of malaria, as well as the timely arrival of patients at hospitals, which has been easing a timely intervention by the medical body.
In 2007, about 30,000 cases of malaria were registered in south Huíla province, from which 12,000 resulted in deaths.
