Addis Ababa

The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Juan Somavia, arrived here in Addis Ababa to pay a two-day official visit and attend the Sixth Ordinary Session of the Labour and Social Affairs Commission (LSAC) of the African Union (AU).

The visit will provide the ILO Director-General an opportunity to discuss ways and means to strengthen cooperation between ILO and the African Union Commission (AUC), ILO said in a statement.

During the visit, the Director-General will address the AU conference and will also meet Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Hassan Abdella.

The primary goal of the International Labour Organization is to promote opportunities for women and men to obtain decent and productive employment in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity.
