Nairobi — The Kenya Roads Board (KRB) wants the Government to increase allocations to Sh19 billion for the 2008-2009 financial year up from the current Sh18.4 billion.
These funds will be used for the construction and rehabilitation of major and rural access roads across.
KRB Executive Director, Dr Francis Nyangaga, told The Standard that the funds would mostly be used for road maintenance.
Nyangaga warned road construction firms that they would be monitored to ensure that work was properly done.
"We normally have a detailed plan of what to expect on completion. Agencies must know that we will monitor them closely so that they deliver services as promised," he said.
He urged Kenyans to be on the look out and report any suspicion of shoddy work.
He also revealed that three more roads authorities would soon be introduced to help in supervision.
Said he: "We will have the Kenya National Highway Authority, Kenya Rural Roads Authority and Kenya Urban Roads Authority."
