Angola: Judo - National Teams Win Championship

Angola conquered the judo championship of the Higher Council for Sports in Africa's (CSSA) IV zone, in a competition that took place in Maputo (Mozambique), Angop learnt from an official source Thursday.

The country participated in the competition with two national senior teams, female and male.

Speaking to Angop, the national coach, André de Sousa, said that the judo players conquered 11 gold medals and five silvers, being considered the country's athlete, Ângelo António (-73kg), as the best of the event.

With this result, the country has qualified for the African championship that will take place on May 16-25 in Morocco that will qualify for the Olympic Games of August in Beijing, China.

In Mozambique, where South Africa took the second position in the general standings, Angola was represented by Juzileide Gourgel (57kg), Antónia de Fátima (-70kg) and Elma Bartolomeu (+78kg) in the female team, while Ângelo António (-73 kg) Henriques João (81kg), David Afonso (-90kg), Casimiro Carlos (-100kg), and Dinis de Oliveira (+100kg) played for the male group.
