Africa: Golf - Kenya Third in Zambia Contest

Nairobi — Kenya's national golf team lost easy matches in the final singles round of the 2008 Africa Zone Six Golf Championship at Ndola Golf Club in Zambia Thursday.

Despite winning their crucial match against South Africa, Kenya finished third as the championship ended Thursday. Kenya lost the first point in the closing round through Lee Njoroge, who was two up with three holes to play against Swaziland's Steven Nemes but missed the greens from the fairway to lose the 16th with a bogey. He again lost the 17th and 18th with bogeys. Ernest Mutema was beaten at the 18th by Uganda's V. Byamukama despite having been up by a hole with two holes to play. Kenya's top seed, Greg Snow, also lost by a hole to Zimbabwe's T. Musemburi. However, John Kagiri beat South Africa's Dylan Fritelli 2-1 while other victories came through Ganeev Giddie, who beat Malawi's Abdul Mohamed 1-up, and team captain Francis Kimani posted a 1-up victory against Zambia's Eto Kabuddula.
