Joseph Madzimure

25 April 2008

Harare — THE country's largest mobile service providers Econet Wireless and NetOne have hiked tariffs by 1 236 percent and 1 333 percent with effect from yesterday and today respectively.

The increases, which are meant to cushion the cellular service providers against rising operational costs, come hardly two months after the last review.

In the latest round of increases, Econet's Buddie customers will now have to fork out $4 091 722 per minute when calling fellow Econet Wireless subscribers.

Calls by Buddie subscribers to other networks, namely NetOne, Telecel and TelOne, will be pegged at $4 199 804, $4 127 978 and $3 818 220 respectively.

International calls to fixed receivers in group one such as the United Kingdom, Belgium and other European countries, will range from $ 7 321 157 to $7 344 297 for the different Econet packages.

For making international calls to mobile phones, subscribers will be charged a rate of $7 321 157 for Buddie, $7 344 297 for Business Partna and $ 7 319 769 for Libertie.

NetOne to Econet Wireless charges have been increased to $4 560 000 during peak hour, $3 880 000 during leisure period and NetOne to NetOne is costing $3 710 000 during peak period and $3 160 000 during non-peak.
