The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has announced that there will be no load-shedding from 28 April to 4 May.
According to the Metro, this is due to Eskom's estimation that as a result of the three public holidays next week, there will be reduced demand for electricity consumption.
"The municipality does however caution residents that should the national demand increase beyond Eskom's estimations, we may consequently be requested by Eskom to load-shed," said Nelson Mandela Bay spokesperson Rolland Williams.
Should this be the case, Mr Williams said, the municipality would apply the four-hour schedule as previously communicated.
He said the municipality, however, remained fully confident that residents of Nelson Mandela Bay would do everything they could to be energy-efficient, as the metro did not foresee the demand rising above the anticipated consumption.
"We take this opportunity to thank Nelson Mandela Bay residents for their continued patience and understanding, and we trust that the national electricity situation will soon be alleviated.
"We also wish to inform residents that, due to the reprieve of next week (28 April to 4 May), the load-shedding schedule for the following week (5 May to 11 May) will be revised, and will be communicated in due course," said Mr Williams.
On Sunday, millions of Rands in damage was caused when an oil-based circuit breaker and electricity sub-station exploded in Port Elizabeth, where a municipal employee was lucky to escape serious injury.
At the time, the municipality spokesperson Laurens Schoeman, said the Walmer and surrounding areas were currently without power while municipal workforce was working around the clock to restore power to the affected areas.
The explosion was apparently caused as a result of power surges caused by load shedding.
"It is believed that the circuit breakers are not designed to be switched on and off at regular intervals as had been done because of the current load shedding," said Mr Schoeman.
He said the municipality was hoping to link up some of the affected areas with other supply cables close by.
The rain over the weekend delayed the progress of municipal workers doing excavations for the erection of an emergency temporary electricity substation. Therefore the restoring of power only started on Tuesday afternoon.

Electricity consumers in the area are urged to work together with the municipality to mitigate the impact of load shedding as much as possible.
Loadshedding, loadshedding? oh you mean blackouts, note the spin, now they are doing us (the consumer)a favour,us bad guys that consumed more than they could supply although they had +-15yrs to build more stations.Pricks your concience dosnt it.
