Donor agencies and European countries who participated in the conference expressed their concern regarding the Zimbabwe situation (Zimbabwe is a full-fledged member of the SADC) and none too subtly pressed the SADC to take a stand on Zimbabwe saying it was an African problem that needed to be solved by Africa. This didn't go down well with SADC president who refused to take a stand on Zimbabwe; Executive secretary of the organization said that "a member of the family" was having problems and that Zimbabwe was an "African problem" for Africans to deal with.

Bus way to save Port Louis. Government will go ahead with the Bus Way, as a means to solve Port-Louis congestion problem. The Bus Way entails that a "way" will be identified for super speedy buses that will enter the capital free of charge. Government hopes to encourage people to take the bus to work. Those who are still not convinced will have to pay a fee to enter the capital city. Along with these projects, a bridge will be built over Port-Louis for those who only need to cross Port Louis.

Food crisis hits poultry industry. The price of maize, which is the main ingredient in chicken feed, has increased by 70% over the past two years. The price of soya, second-most used ingredient in the feed has also increased substantially. These increases have raised fears in the poultry industry about the sustained availability of poultry and especially that of eggs. Mauritius is currently self-sufficient in terms of its poultry demand. The whole world is currently being rocked by a food crisis as producers of rice and other staples have stopped or limited their exports to secure domestic supplies.
