Nigeria: Jigawa Awards N1.4 Billion Road Contracts

Barely a week after the revocation of 65 contracts in the state, the Jigawa government has re - awarded contracts worth N1.4 billion for the construction of dilapidated township roads across the state.

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Alhaji Rabi'u Isah Taura, who signed the contract agreement with three construction firms on behalf of the state government, declared that the companies had duly satisfied all the conditions stipulated in the agreements.

The construction firms include Triacta Nigeria Ltd, SKY Technical and Construction Company Ltd and Borini Prono Construction Company Nigeria Ltd.

Giving a breakdown of the construction terms, the commissioner said Triacta Nigeria Ltd will construct the Gantsa township roads at the cost of N259, 260,655.56 while SKY Technical is expected to construct Birniwa township roads at the cost of N927, 025,436.5.

He further said Borini Prono would handle both the construction work of the entire Garki township roads and Garki to Gumel link road at the cost of N313, 430,536.44 and N108, 643,161.38 respectively.

The commissioner who expressed optimism that the firms would handle the work as expected by the government, however stressed that government would not hesitate to revoke the contracts if any of them breached the contract agreement.

A Borini Prono construction company engineer who spoke for the firms, Engineer Diana Oliaro, assured the state government that the three companies will make sure they complete the construction work as agreed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Land and Housing has inaugurated a nine man Committee saddled with the responsibility of compensating residents whose lands were affected in either road or construction of housing projects.

This was contained in a press statement issued to Daily Trust in Dutse signed by the PRO of the ministry, Malam Mati Ali. The committee members who were drawn from various sectors of the society, include the permanent secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Mohammed Habib Barde, who will act as the chairman, while the District Head of Dutse, Alhaji Jamilu Basiru, will serve as the Secretary.
