Lagos — The capital market yesterday maintained its bearish posture as market capitalisation dropped again from N11.810 trillion to N11.756 trillion at the close of trading on Wednesday.
Specifically the All-Share index nose drive further from 61.249.85 to 60.970.66 at the close of trading on Wednesday.
Total led the gainers' chat on the floor of the market with N245.00 against the previous day of N235.00. This was followed by Flourmill with N91.60 agaist N88.50 at the opening of the market on Wednesday. Other gainers were Oando, Mobil and Cadbury. Each added N3.00, N2.08 and N1.90 gains respectively and closed at N231.00, N272.00 and N39.90 respectively against the opening of N228.00, N270.02 and N38.00.
Chevron whose shares were suspended from the market shed heavily. It lost N10 per share to close at N280.00. This was followed by CapalBeto with N5.65 lost to close at N107.35 while Conoil also lost N4.00 to close at N130.00. Other lossers were Julius Berger with N99.00 and Nestle N227.00.
Meanwhile on Tuesday, the volume of transaction appreciated as a total of 634.635 million shares valued at N12.531 billion traded in 18.164 deals as against 398.112 million shares worth N7.239 billion made in 12.73 deals the previous day, Banking subsector drove the activity chart with 287.186 million shares valued at 8.26 billion exchanged in 8377 deals.
Platinum Habib Bank Plc was the toast of investors in terms of turnover, accounting for 57.495 million shares valued at N1.670 billion transacted in 231 deals.
Insurance sub sector came second in the activity chart having accounted for 189.67 million shares worth N895.253 million exchanged in 3581 deals.
Universal Insurance Company Plc was the investors delight recording 39.473 million shares worth N121.164 million in 792 deals.
