The trial involving Lieutenant Bakary Camara, Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang and Domenico Fideli, did not continue at the Banjul Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 21st April, due to lack of state witnesses in court.
Prosecutor ASP Yaya Touray told the court that his witnesses could not make it to court due to circumstances beyond his control. He said one of his witnesses is out of the jurisdiction and that the other is engaged in official duties. ASP Touray indicated that he would prefer the case to be adjourned to a convenient date.
The defence counsel, Sheriff Tambedou, who doubles for Lawyer Lamin Camara, said that at the last sitting date the prosecution had promised to bring all their witnesses to court and to close their case. He urged the court to close the prosecution's case for their failure to bring their witnesses to court and for them to open their defence.
However, Magistrate Kayode Olagubutu, raises concerns about the prosecution's failure to proceed with their case. He warned the prosecutor that by the next sitting date if they fail to proceed he will have no options but to ask the defence to open their case and declare the prosecution's case closed.
Lieutenant Bakary Camara, the Former Protection Officer to president Jammeh, Superintendent Manlafi Sanyang, the Former Vehicles Controller at State House and Domenico Fideli, an Italian architect, are jointly standing trial for allegedly stealing a car.
