Benguela

The provincial justice delegate of south Benguela province, Alberto Pereira praised this Saturday, here, the determination and engagement of the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, in the process of disarming people under the illegal possession of firearms, for the free, fair and safe holding of the legislative elections, set for next September.

Speaking to ANGOP, the official said various citizens are taking part in disarmament campaigns, what shows the fulfilment of instruction of the Head of State, for this purpose.

Alberto Pereira added that he believes that this way the campaign will achieve the expected goals, since some weapons are already being handed over at military units and police stations countrywide.

According to Alberto Pereira, the 1992 armed conflict, a result of the elections held in the same year, should be used as example for the need to hand over firearms to the competent authorities, thereby avoiding similar conflicts.
