Nairobi — Mumias Sugar's Dismas Indiza once again showed his class when he hauled seven birdies for a smart final round of six-under par 64 to win the second leg of the KCB PRO-Am Tour by seven shots at the Nyanza Golf Club on Saturday.
It was Indiza's second consecutive six-under par score on the par-70 course that saw him triumph with a 72-hole total of 14-under par 266, beating Muthaiga's Kopan Timbe, who brought four-under par 66 for seven-under par 272.
It was a sublime performance from the top Kenyan professional as he gradually improved from an awful opening round of three-over par 73 on Wednesday to improve with a second round of five-under par 65 the day after. The rest of the rounds just rolled in. "I should have evened my own course record of seven under-par in the last two days but my putting brought some problems," said a triumphant Indiza. "I hope to improve further and maintain the edge in the next legs.
After scoring level pars on the first two holes, Indiza bogeyed a par-four third after his seven iron tee shot fell short followed by a bad putting. However, he had his irons in place to hole the birdies on fifth, sixth and ninth for two-under par on the front nine.
Despite struggling with his putts to miss vital birdies, Indiza embraced a trouble-free back nine to collect four shots with birdies on 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th for four-under 31 to blow away his opponents and pocket Sh75,600.
"Putting cost me a great deal. I should have won with a better score," said Indiza who is set to participate in four major tournaments in Swaziland and South Africa next month.
Timbe, who also made a steady surge, birdied second and sixth holes but dropped a shot on a short hole third. He carded stable play to return one-under 69 in each of the previous rounds before signing a four-under 66.
Touring golfer, Anil Shah, wound on five-under par 275 after holing three-under par 67, beating the first two rounds leader David Odhiambo by two shots.
Home player Odhiambo carded three-under par 67 after just a day after he blew up a comfortable first two rounds lead of five-under par 65 and one-under 69 for a six over 76 in the third.
