Lunda Sul — The Catoca Mining Society, a company that produces 71 percent of Angola's diamonds, currently has a fiscal contribution to the state's coffers of USD 100 million per year, with an average production capacity of eight million karats.
The information was given Sunday to ANGOP by Catoca's director-general, Nganga Júnior, during the commemorations, in Lunda Sul Province, of the Miners National Day.
Nganga Júnior said that the main objective of the company, in this era of effective peace in the country, is to work for the development of Angola's mining sector, making use of high quality technology and improving production and support infrastructures, as well as focussing on staff training.
According to him, among the various initiatives and actions that the company has programmed, the priority falls on staff training, since it guarantees overall success.
"In Catoca we hold regular training programmes, so as to instil the culture of responsibility at work, as well as professional improvement" he said.
He added that the country's mining sector has potential to be on top of the list of the world´s main producers of minerals, therefore all effort is necessary to achieve the desired development.
Located in the eastern Lunda Sul Province, the Catoca Mining Society was formally constituted on 16 September 1993.
Catoca also finances social projects by investing in the construction of schools and hospitals, among other areas.
