Kigali — Rwanda will play away to Sudan in the first leg of the first round of the Africa Under-17 championship scheduled for the weekend of August 29-31 in Khartoum.

Rwanda cruised to the first round stage after crushing Kenya 2-1 to win 4-3 on goal aggregates.

According to Kenya's Daily Nation, the decisive goal for Rwanda was scored five minutes from time when Military football club striker Christian Uwumukiza got behind the Kenyan defence, poor all evening, to place the ball beyond goalkeeper John Mbugua.

Kenya's Victor Oduma scored the lone goal for home side on the 49th minute of the game which was cancelled by APR midfielder Hegman Ngoma in the 65th minute.

At that stage of the match, still Kenya looked on the cause to book a berth in the first round of the qualifiers after their 2-2- draw a fortnight ago in Kigali but it was not to be.

Rwanda now proceeds to the next round where they will play away to Sudan in the first leg set for August before a home leg slated for September.

Sudan as well as several African countries never played the preliminary stage of the African championship thus got a bye to the first round.

This was Kenya's second national team to be ejected from the continental qualifiers this year.

Harambee Stars bowed out at the first stage of qualification for the African Nations Championship after falling to traditional rivals Tanzania two weeks ago.
