Windhoek — Namibia gave a polished performance to beat Lesotho 4-0 in their African U17 qualifier at the Khomasdal Stadium on Friday night.
Namibia held a comfortable lead after beating Lesotho 5-0 in the first leg in Maseru a fortnight ago and it was Lesotho who came out attacking, looking for an early goal.
But Namibia struck with a goal by Gregorius Isaack against the run of play after 10 minutes, and although Lesotho had several chances, they never looked like threatening Namibia. Benson Shilongo put Namibia 2-0 ahead midway through the second half before Eslin Kamuhanga scored two great volleys in the final ten minutes of the match.
After early pressure by Lesotho, Namibia took the lead after a quick counter attack. Benson Shilongo's shot was parried away, but Gregorius Isaack followed up to stab the loose ball into the net. Lesotho had numerous chances to come back, but wasted several free kicks while winger Refiloe Malibeng shot over the bar from close range. For Namibia, midfielder Sylvester Ortmann provided some great passes and winger Ryan Gariseb put in some strong runs, while Shilongo and Isaack both had shots blocked. Dene Swartz came on for Isaack in the 59th minute and immediately made an impression.
After a strong attack by Shilongo, Swartz was put clear but his shot was well blocked by Lesotho's keeper. Swartz created a chance for Eslin Kamuhanga who shot wide, before Benson Shilongo finally found the net after a quick counter attack.
With eight minutes to go Kamuhanga struck with a great goal when he ran onto a high centre in the box and volleyed it into the net.
Five minutes later he scored a near identical goal, volleying a cross into the net to give Namibia a 4-0 victory and 9-0 on aggregate.
